Newman Zone EVO Injection for Murex Environmental

Updated: May 31, 2023

The Legacy Remediation Team recently completed a 4-week long bioremediation project for Murex Environmental using Enhanced Reductive Dechlorination (ERD) with Bioaugmentation. The project site was a multi-tenant Industrial Property located in Orange County California. The primary groundwater contaminants of concern (COCs) were PCE, TCE and Cis-1,2-DCE.

The selected remediation technologies included Newman Zone 55 Emulsified Vegetable Oil (EVO) and SDC-9 Microbial Culture provide by Remediation Products (RNAS) and C.E.R.E.S Corporation.

The Legacy Team mobilized our one of our full size custom-built self-contained Injection Trailers.

The 15 Totes of Nz EVO and Sodium Bicarbonate pH buffer were all shipped to and warehoused at the Legacy shop, since onsite storage was limited. The Legacy Team coordinated daily deliveries of the reagent as needed.

A private onsite fire hydrant was used for our mix water source.

Crossover ramps were utilized to allow for unobstructed flow of traffic over the Hydrant Hose and our Injection Lines.

One of our new Geoprobe 7822 V4 Track Rigs was utilized to advance the direct push injection tools. We utilized 3-foot long injection tools, targeting treatment intervals between 19-42 feet bgs.

Anaerobic flush water for the SDC-9 Microbial Culture was prepared using CERES Sodium Ascorbate Oxygen Scavenger. We prepared the anaerobic flush water in alternating batches in two 1,000 gallon poly storage tanks.

We prepared the Newman Zone EVO and Sodium Bicarbonate mixture in our onboard 250 gallon mix tanks.

The EVO Mixture was injected through our 10-point injection manifold fitted with individual valves, pressure gauges and magnetic flow meters/flow totalizers.

We manifolded up to ten (10) simultaneous direct push injection points, with flow rates ranging between 0.5 to 3.2 gpm, and pressure ranging between 8 to 45 psi, depending on location, depth, and geology.

The SDC-9 Microbial Culture was brought into this measurement cylinder, then the prescribed dose was injected directly into each point through our Injection Manifold.

25 gallons of anaerobic water was injected before and after each SDC-9 dose.

Like with all projects there were some challenges along the way, however adjustments were made as needed. The end result was a safe and successful injection project. We were able to complete the project one (1) day ahead of schedule, resulting in additional value and cost savings to our client and the PRP.
