When we need to advance Injection Tooling beyond the capability of our Geoprobe 7822DTs, we team with Veteran Drilling and use one of their CPT Rigs. A full-size CPT Rig can apply 4-6 times the weight to the tool string when compared to the large class Geoprobe Rigs. Instead of simply beating the tooling to depth, the CPT Rig gently works the tooling to depth with static weight, with occasional pulling the tooling back and forth to break friction. Veteran Drilling's CPT Rigs also have Direct Push Hammers mounted on them. These hammers can be used in conjunction with the static weight to get past certain hard sections. At this particular project, Veteran Drilling is advancing our Injection Tools to 115 feet bgs.
Large Class Direct Push Rigs like the Geoprobe 3230DT and the Geoprobe 8040DT were designed to make a larger diameter boring, not necessarily drive small diameter tooling deeper. When these large class Geoprobe rigs use their GH70 or GH80 hammer force to advance injection tools, it commonly results in tool breakage.
