The Legacy Remediation team recently completed a successful Direct Push Injection project in Los Angeles County! The groundwater remediation approach called for the injection of a mixture of Wilclear Plus and Zero-Valent Iron (ZVI), along with bioaugmentation using a Dehalococcoides microbial culture.

The Wilclear Plus was provided by JRW Remediation, and was delivered in 2,750 pound IBC Totes.
Wilclear Plus is 61% fermentable blend containing lactate and other fermentable materials and water-soluble nutrients including B-vitamins and yeast factors.

The Ferox Target Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) Powder was provided by Hepure, and was delivered in 25 kilogram pails.
In general ZVI promotes the breakdown of chlorinated contaminants using reductive dechlorination.

Ferox Target has a 25-50 micron size range, with an average particle size of 44 microns.
Ferox Target ZVI provides high reactivity due to the large surface area.
All mixing and pumping were performed using one of our self-contained Injection Trailers.
The project specific mixture was prepared in our dual 70-gallon mix tanks and delivered with a double-action piston pump, capable of pumping up to 20 GPM and reaching pressures of up to 1,000 PSI.

For this project, all mix water was made anaerobic before blending in two 1,300-gallon poly tanks.
Prior to use, water quality was tested to ensure all parameters were met.

Project depths varied across the site, with target intervals reaching as deep as 104 feet.
We partnered with our friends at Veteran Drilling, utilizing one of their Hammer-Mounted CPT Trucks to reach the target treatment zones. Teamwork in action!"

We also had one of our Geoprobe 6011 Direct Push Rig onsite to support injections and facilitate boring abandonment using bottom-up pressure grouting.

A quick selfie while checking in on the anaerobic water preparation process!

Abdiel (Richie) Ramirez safely and successfully led this project from start to finish! This is yet another example of our commitment to delivering innovative and effective environmental solutions. Great work, Richie!
